Career and Internship Fair

Here ye! Here ye! September 21st is the Second Annual Volunteer Fair. Why is it good to volunteer? Not only do you give back to the community, but you get INVOLVED in the community. If we are thinking along the line of cost and benefit, then you know that volunteer work is a great place to meet people in your possible field.

Here is the link for more information:

And for all you savvy English majors, here is a list of a few companies:

Historic Huguenot Street

Unison Arts Center
Ulster Literacy Association
New Paltz Youth Program

***I volunteered as an Educator at the Mohonk Preserve last Spring and it was wonderful. I basically took kids on hikes, and helped the leaders organize a lesson plan. Great experience! Also, Mohonk GIVES you a free pass to The Preserve and The Mountain House with unlimited benefits. A pass like that would cost you over $115. Here is some more information:

The coordinator of the program is named Roland Ellis. Contact him directly if you are interested: rellis433@earthlink.net

Imagine if you could work for Penguin Publishing!? Or Norton? You could actually MEET Stephen Greenblatt!
*Make you check out my Writing Lesson on Resumes and Cover letters. As always if you need help, I am here.  Happy writing!

Hudson Valley Event 21+

September 4, 2010 In Good Taste is hosting a huge wine tasting. Kenny, the owner, has a wonderful palate and is always willing to adjust to your price range. Their wine tastings are top notch. See you there!

Here is a copy of the e-mail invite they sent out:

Greetings!

What are we thinking?!!! This tasting will be too large, too huge, too...too...too...GARGANTUAN!!!
That's right, it just may be too gargantuan for any of us to bear, but join us...if you dare.
There will be hot dogs and watermelon and wine, Wine, WINE!!!
The mayhem will begin at 1:00pm this coming Saturday of Labor Day Weekend and we'll try our best to wrangle the beast in by 6:00pm.

Sincerely,

Debra Rauch

Who doesn't love an Elizabethan word play?

Want to confound your friends, get rid of an arch enemy, or woo a potential love object?  Why not do all of that Shakespeare style? He was a man of many words and all of them the right ones.

Check it out you clouted, clay-brained, canker blossoms!:

Events of the English Persuasion

I don't know about you, but my idea of a good time is reading Shakespeare. Even better is watching Shakespeare. Ten times better than that is when a talented troupe is right in the Hudson Valley performing Shakespeare.
I had the pleasure of seeing "A Comedy of Errors," performed entirely in rap. Amazing, amazing, amazing are three words that would describe it. I did not stop laughing the entire time and the actors were fabulous.  Not only that, but the Boscobel is situated on a beautiful manor that overlooks the Hudson. Bring a picnic complete with mead and wine and you'll have a smashing Shakespearean experience.

Still can't get enough? Check out the Renaissance Fair. This is only for the truly devout as some of the actors can really scare the pants off you. My first year a groundling chased me with a turkey leg and threatened to put me in the stocks. All in good fun is what I declare! I'll be there this Labor Day Monday.
